Geotechnical Testing

Geotechnical Testing Services In Oman

Geotechnical testing is a process performed to understand and obtain information on the physical properties of the soil, earthworks, and foundation of the structure to be constructed on that surface.

As a notable geotechnical laboratory testing service provider in Oman, GTS undertakes several onshore and offshore ground investigations for a range of civil and industrial construction, infrastructure, and pipeline projects. We adopt the same rigorous, professional approach for both; be it large multi-disciplinary investigation projects or small simple structures. Our investigation is supervised by highly qualified and experienced geotechnical engineers and geologists.

Geotechnical Testing Laboratory Services We Offer

The geotechnical tests that we offer include:

Soil investigation: For soil investigation tests, a geotechnical engineer will visit your site to acquire and test samples of soil. The test helps determine the characteristics, reactivity, and nature of the soil. It also helps determine the density, compaction, sand content of the soil, or if there are any contaminants present at the site.

Bearing capacity & settlement analysis: This analysis helps determine the capacity of the soil to understand if the soil can support the loads applied to the ground.

Trial pits: A trial pit is an excavation of the site ground to study, analyse, and collect samples of the composition and structure of the sub-surface, dug during the soil or geological survey, or a site investigation.

Standard penetration test (SPT): It is an in-situ dynamic penetration test crafted to gather information about the soil’s geotechnical engineering properties for the purpose of designing.

Permeability in soil (falling/constant head): The falling head permeability test is one of the most common laboratory teststo determine the permeability of fine-grained soils with the ones having an intermediate and low permeability. On the other hand, a constant head permeability test is used to determine the coefficient of permeability in the soil.

Dynamic cone penetration test (DCPT): This method helps determine the underlying in-situ strength of the soil and evaluates the thickness and location of the sub-surface soil layers.

Groundwater monitoring and sampling: The groundwater monitoring system represents the condition and trends of the groundwater resources. Samples are collected via groundwater sampling to acquire accurate project results.

Plate load tests: The plate load test is a field test used to obtain an estimation of the deformation characteristics of the soil and the likely settlement under a given load. It helps calculate shallow foundations (if any) to ensure the longevity of the structure to be constructed.

Consolidation tests: This test helps analyse the rate and magnitude of soil consolidation. In this test, the soil is restrained laterally and loaded axially for stability analysis.

In-situ CBR tests: The in-situ CBR (California Bearing Ratio) test is usually used for roads, runways, or car-park pavement designs. It helps evaluate the strength of the sub-grade.

Soil electrical resistivity tests: This test is used for measuring the volume of soil to judge its conductivity.

Direct shear tests: Direct shear is a field or laboratory test used by geotechnical engineers to gauge the shear strength of the soil properties or rock material.

Pile integrity test: This method is used by geotechnical engineers for the control and assurance of the quality of deep foundations and piles.

Soil swelling tests: Determining the swell index of the soil helps identify the soil’s potential and its swelling pressure under different field conditions.
